Brown Technology Innovations has announced the launch of the Brown Deep Tech Impact (BDTI) Fund to support the formation and growth of pre-seed companies built on breakthrough research and technological innovation emerging from Brown University.
“The launch of the Brown Deep Tech Impact Fund marks a defining step forward in how we bring breakthrough research from initial scientific discovery to venture creation,” said Greg Hirth, the University’s vice president for research. “By pairing up to $100,000 in early-stage capital with tailored industry mentorship and project management, BDTI will aim to empower Brown’s innovators to build high-impact technologies and investable startups across a wide range of vital fields. We are eager to see the ground-breaking innovations this initiative will unlock.
BDTI will provide strategic, monetary, and advisory support for well-defined research projects which includes, but is not limited to, the funding of translational research projects, advising from an independent panel, and exploring commercial development opportunities.
To be eligible, investigators must be covered by the Brown University IP policy and have an obligation to assign IP to Brown University. Interested applicants must submit an expression of interest by Nov. 9. Every applicant who submits an expression of interest form will be contacted to set up a one-hour meeting with members of the BDTI and BTI teams to review the form and discuss the technology and development plan. Full proposals are by invitation only, with chosen applicants being notified of full proposal invitations by Dec. 4.
Interested parties should review the full program guidelines before submitting an expression of interest.
