Kushaal Rao is a Ph.D. candidate in neuroscience program at Brown University, focusing on developing brain-computer interfaces to restore movement for individuals with tetraplegia. His journey in neuroscience began at the University of California, Davis, where he earned his B.S. in computational cognitive science in 2022. During his undergraduate years, Kushaal conducted research on the neural correlates of visual awareness and contributed to translational research on stroke rehabilitation. Before starting his graduate studies, he gained industry experience through an internship at Rune Labs, a neuromodulation startup. Kushaal is interested in the growing neurotech industry and the role that tech transfer plays in the commercialization of science.
